Seal Watching on Horseback from Húsey HI Hostel

Horses are bred at Húsey and riding tours are offered daily from the hostel from May to October. Before each tour begins, guests are given instructions on how to treat the horse and become the horse's friend. The whole group begins the tour together, but is then split up depending on the riders' ability so this tour is ideal for everyone, both for beginners and those who have riding experience.
About twenty different kinds of birds can be spotted along the way, and the tour travels through the nesting area of the birds the Great Skua and the Arctic Skua who can be aggressive, but everyone has a helmet so there's nothing to worry about. We also ride through a soil reclamation area where a lot of thyme grows. At Lagarfljót river, we ride through the sand towards the glacial river Jökulsá á Dal, and the seals can be seen somewhere along the way. In these rivers you can find about 12 - 15% of the country's seal stock.
Everyone is given a certificate at the end of the tour.
