HI Iceland has over 80 years of experience in sustainable travel, budget accommodation, and authentic hostel hospitality. Our network includes 18 unique hostels across Iceland, from Reykjavík city hostels to rural escapes surrounded by nature, hot springs, and glaciers.
Hostelling International - a hundred-year-old heritage.
We are a part of Hostelling International - the largest hostel network in the world with 62 members and over 3000 hostels around the globe. HI is indeed the original Hostelling Movement that began nearly 100 years ago in the heart of Europe, spreading all around the world, including Iceland.
Our hostels meet the HI Quality and Sustainability standards, which guarantee good quality, safe and friendly accommodation at affordable prices. HI was founded on the principle of welcoming everyone - from solo travelers to couples, friends, family, and groups.
HI mission - a commitment to sustainable travel
Our hostels meet international HI Quality & Sustainability standards, focusing on responsible tourism, cultural exchange, and low-impact travel. By sharing facilities and using resources responsibly, hostelling helps reduce travelers’ carbon footprint while supporting local communities and Icelandic culture.
HI Iceland owns and operates Dalur HI Hostel and Loft HI Hostel, both award-winning eco-certified hostels with social spaces, community events, cafés, and affordable accommodation in Reykjavík city center.
We also operate the Reykjavík Eco Campsite, a year-round eco campsite supporting sustainable travel near Reykjavík’s geothermal pools and outdoor attractions.
