Sea kayaking day tour from Stykkisholmur
Sea kayaking tour will start from the old harbour in the center of the charming village of Stykkishólmur. Stykkishólmur is renowned for its old colorful houses and rich history as well as being the gateway to the innumerable islands of Breidafjordur bay.
Breiðafjörður has endless amounts of untouched islands and its incredible wildlife. On this tour you paddle around flocks of seabirds f.ex. puffins and eider ducks. Underneath and around us, you can spot occasional seals popping up to check out these new explorers paddling around their hometurf. Along the calm paddling you will learn about the history and geology of the volcanic and glacier covered Snæfellsnes peninsula.
If luck is on our side you might even witness the king of iceland’s birdlife, the white-tailed eagle, flying far above or nesting on any of the island we pass. The white tail eagle is the rarest nesting bird in Iceland and when spotted it is an unforgettable view. Most eagles nest in Western Iceland and the Westfjords so your stakes are up for an unforgettable birding.
On our voyage lies the old shipwreck of fishing boat Thorgeir, wich has been untouched for decades. After hauling icelandic storm in the 80’s old Thorgeir broke free of his anker line and crashed at the shore of Landey and has been there ever since. After short paddle break at this picturesque spot, our tour threads on between all the islands absorbing the everlasting peace and quiet out on the sea before we paddle our way back to shore.
