You will meet your experienced guide at Skaftafell Visitor Center and from there you will be driven to the root of Svínafellsjökull, which is an outlet glacier of the Vatnajökull Ice cap. Your guide will give you the equipment needed to scale the glacier, such as crampons and a helmet. Don’t worry if you’ve never been glacier hiking before; the guide will show you the ropes. You will then be taken to the roots of the ice cap so you can begin your excursion.
The glacier is a part of the tallest mountain range in Iceland, and the highest peak in the country, Hvannadalshnúkur is easily seen from the glacier on a clear sky. During the glacier walk you will be exploring the breathtaking ice formations and moulins while learning how they are formed and constantly change. The most breathtaking of them all will then be the naturally formed ice cave. Where you will be able to walk inside and see the amazing blue ice.
