The birds and the sea and the seals
Some of Iceland's best seal and bird-watching can be enjoyed near Ósar, 30 km off the ring road on the Vatnsnes peninsula. Ósar is known as being a haven for nature lovers and history buffs alike as well as the scene of dramatic historical events, myths and folklore. Visit Hvítserkur, a 15 m high sea stack resembling a prehistoric dinosaur said to be an ancient troll petrified by the sunrise, or Illugastaðir and Þrístapar, the background for the events leading up to the last public execution in Iceland.
