Village Charm by the Black Sand Beach

The sea views from Vík, the southernmost village of Iceland, are some of the most dramatic you will see along the south coast, with the Reynisdrangar cliffs jutting ominously from the sea in the distance.

Overseeing everything is Mýrdalsjökull glacier, the big brother of the notorious Eyjafjallajökull and host to active volcano Katla. Close by is the much photographed Dyrhólaey, a gigantic arch formed by coastal erosion, where puffins come to nest in the summer.

The Vík HI Hostel offers a warm atmosphere and top notch service, with day tours available from the hostel including trips to Mýrdalsjökull glacier, hiking through the spectacular Remundargil or visiting the first known viking tomb.
