Glacier World in Hoffelli

Offers exciting tours on ATV’s in extreme surroundings. On the tour, you drive into a long valley where you experience beautiful nature, big mountains, wildlife, Hoffellsjökull glacier and a small glacier lagoon.

Jökulsárlón is one of Iceland's most visited places and for a good reason. The large glacier lagoon is a unique place with icebergs constantly breaking off from the glacier and eventually drifting through the short river to the sea. The waves turn some of the icebergs back to the black sand beach where they lie scattered like gems.

Jökulsárlón is extremely popular amongst photographers due to its spectacular scenery. Jökulsárlón was the setting for the Hollywood films A View to a Kill, Die another Day, Tomb Raider and Batman Begins - in addition to the reality-TV series Amazing Race.

There are hundreds of seals in the lagoon during winter and plenty of birds live by the lagoon. A great way to experience the magic of the lagoon is to sail amongst the icebergs and have a taste of the 1000 year old ice

Jökulsárlón is only 28km away from Vagnsstaðir.

The Þórbergur Centre of culture in Hali in the district Suðursveit of southeast Iceland.

The Þórbergur Centre was built in memory of the famous Icelandic writer Þórbergur Þórðarson (1888 – 1974), who was born in Hali. At the centre, there is a heritage museum and unique exhibitions of the district Suðursveit and the writer Þórbergur Þórðarson, his life and work.

There is a fully licensed restaurant at the centre where coffee, homebaked cakes and specialities such as the farmraised arctic char (trout) from Hali as well as other traditional local food like gourmet Icelandic lamb and traditional lamb meat soup with bread are offered.

Þórbergssetur is only 15km away from Vagnsstaðir.

Skaftafell is definitely a must-see for all visitors of the Vatnajokull Region. Skaftafell is known as one of Iceland´s most beautiful places with its magnificent contrasts of white glaciers, black sands and green meadows.

Skaftafell is in Öræfi county which was one of Iceland´s most isolated areas untill the early 70´s when the last glacier river at the wast sands of Skeiðarársandur was bridged to complete the Ring Road of Iceland.

Skaftafell National Park is ca. 85km from Vagnsstaðir.

Ingólfshöfði cape is an isolated island between the black sands of the south coast of Iceland and the North Atlantic Ocean.

This historic cape is named after Iceland's first settler, Ingólfur Arnarson, who spent his first winter here with his family in the years 874-875 before moving further west.

Ingolfshöfði cape is a headland isolated from the mainland by black sands and perilous rivers. Its isolation makes it a perfect residence for thousands of nesting seabirds, especially puffins and the great skua.

The family company Local guide offers trips to the cape in a tractor pulled hay trolley across the six km of waters, marshes and sands on the way.

Öræfaferðir is 70km from Vagnsstaðir.
