Swimming Pools
Dalvík community has two Swimming Pools, in Dalvík there is a 12,5m x 25 m pool, with hot tubs, shallow childrans pool, watermushroom, waterslides, solarium, steambath and a very nicely equipped gym. Svarfaðardalur valley indoor swimming pool was built in 1929 and its the oldest specially made indoor pool in Iceland. Hvoll Museum
The museum in Dalvík has a lot to offer its guests. The room and things of Jóhann Pétursson who was among the tallest men in the world, collection of birds, a polar bear and a seal. The story of the great earthquake of Dalvík 1934 can be read. Skiing On mountain Böggvisstaðafjall we enjoy one of Icelands best skiing resort. Dalvík has a long tradition of skiing and many great skiers from Dalvík have competed for Iceland at international competitions and the Olympics.
Whale watching – sea angling
Whale watching and sea angling can be enjoyed on the orginal oak fishing boats Viktor from Dalvík and Níels Jónsson from Hauganes village.
Svarfaðardalur Nature Reserve –Bird watching
The reserve is about 8 sq.km. of wetland by the Svarfaðardalur river. Very good conditions for many species of birds which can be seen in the area. Marked trails for birdwatching and two huts by nearby small lakes. Birdwatching can also be done by the whale watching boats or by taking a trip to Grímsey island.
Grímsey island – on the Arctic circle
Grímsey island lies 40 km north of Iceland, directly on the Arctic circle. The ferry Sæfari sails from Dalvík three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Tröllaskagi peninsula– Great variety of hiking trails
From Dalvík you can choose from a lot of hiking possibilities on Tröllaskagi, wether its for a short day trip or for longer trips. Tröllaskagi is a rugged peninsula lying between Skagafjörður and Eyjafjörður, filled with mountains, rivers and small glaciers.
