The hostel is located in an old school that now has got a new role.  The apartment located at the upper floor of the building as well as the school on the lower floor have been refurbished and decorated to accommodate guests.
In the apartment on the upper floor, five double bedrooms and one single bedroom are available. Two common WC´s are on the upper floor as well as two showers.

On the lower floor, two family rooms are available, one accommodating up to 4-persons and one up to 6-persons.  In both these rooms, accommodation is by bunk beds for two.  Two WC´s are on the lower floor, one for each sex.  Two common showers are also on the lower floor.
Spaceous and fully equipped kitchens are located on both floors.  Guests have access to these kitchens, dining rooms and sitting rooms where they can watch TV, listen to music, surf the internet, read papers, magazines and books, or just simply enjoy the view. Guests should consider that no food service is available and the closest convenient store is 35 km away.

Broddanes hostel is only 35 km south of Hólmavík where you can find a convenient store, swimming pool, a golf course and horse rental. Hólmavík is also the home of the Museum of Icelandic Sorcery & Witchcraft.

Peaceful and diverse nature

The nature in the Broddanes area is not only diverse but also peaceful and quiet. The coastline is diverse with small peninsulas and bays, creeks, islets and skerries. The wildlife is at the same time unique. Seals swim along the coastline and there is great opportunity to see various species of birds.

Bird watching

Broddanes is a bird watching paradise. A large puffin colony is in a small islet just off the coast making it easy for guests to explore the behavior of the puffins.  The puffins arrive in early May and leave in the middle of August.
The small islets off the coast are also a home to the eider ducks.  Sometimes the eider ducks nest on the mainland and can be seen laying on their eggs.
The artic terns arrive from the southern hemisphere in May and nests right adjacent to the hostel.  They can be aggressive, especially when the chicks have hatched from the eggs.
Other birds such as, black guillemots, ringed plovers, skuas, fulmars and other feathered friends are also common in the area.

Hiking

Good hiking routes can be found in the vicinity of the hostel.  Guests can walk along the coastline to explore the diverse wildlife or simply enjoy the landscape and nature. 

Museums

In Hólmavík, some 35 km away, you can find the Museum of Sorcery and Witchcraft. The museum explains the folklore connected to magic, and visitors can learn how to make themselves invisible, how to create extra money, how to know who has stolen from you and how to deal with ghosts. Guests at the museum can even take part in a special ceremony: helping a local sorcerer to scare away ghosts and evil spirits, which for many visitors is the highlight of their stay in Iceland.
