The Hostel is in a new building and is ideally located for those who want to do hiking tours in the National park in Skaftafell, visit Jökulsárlón, go to Laka or Landmannalaugar. In the surroundings of the hostel you can find many species of birds and hiking trails. The guestkitchen at the hostel is very well equipped. Next supermarket is 25 km away.

Location:	The Hostel is located appr. 25 km east of Kirkjubæjarklaustur and 45 km west of Skaftafell National Park, appr. 2,5 km from road no 1. Hostel Hvoll is 270 km from Reykjavik.

National parks

Skaftafell National Park is Iceland´s second national park, established in 1967. Skaftafell is an area of almost 5.000 square kilometres and is an oasis wedged between sand and glacier. Its unique natural beauty is a result of favourable weather conditions and the interplay of fire and ice.

Hiking

Núpsstaðarskógur is a lovely area on the slopes of the Eystrafjall mountain, west of the Skeiðarárjökull glacier. The Súlutindar peaks are close by, rising sharply west of the glacier. It is possible to ascend Kálfsklif, with the help of a rope fixed to the rocky face. Landscape of the area is impessive. Lake Grænalón lagoon lies about 15 km further on.

Waterfalls

Foss á Síðu is a spectacular farm mound approx. 10 km east of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. A beautiful waterfall falls from the cliffs above the farm, from a lake called Þórutjörn. This magnificent spectacle catches the eye of everyone that pass by. A passable hiking trail leads to Þórutjörn and from there the view of Síða is amazing. A short way from Foss á Síðu Dverghamrar lie. Dverghamrar are peculiar and beautiful formations of columnar basalt.
