Thorsmörk Mountain Reserve

Thorsmork is one of Iceland´s most beautiful natural wonders - truly the pearl of the south! Its magic and extraordinary scenery have made it one of the country´s most popular attractions and was given the status of natural reserve as early as 1929.

Húsadalur offers many types of accommodation. Those who want the true mountain cabin atmosphere can stay in one of our two huts or at the campsite, but for more privacy, our double/twin rooms or the small cottages are ideal. Various activities are available in the area. For example you can buy meals, soak in the hot pool, visit the sauna and much more.  One thing is for sure - everybody should find something fun to do.

There are numerous hiking trails in Thorsmörk that range from short walks up to a whole day´s trip. You can start or end your hiking trips in Thorsmork, f.ex. the Laugavegur hike from Landmannalaugar to Thorsmork and the Fimmvorduhals hike from Skogar to Thorsmork (or vice versa).  You can find trekking maps here.

Thorsmork is about 150 km from Reykjavik, along the south coast, on route 1. The road to Thorsmork, once you´ve left route 1, is lined with treacherous glacial rivers.  Do not try to cross them yourself, unless you are a very experienced driver and have an altered 4x4 truck. You can leave your car at Seljalandsfoss and take a scheduled bus from there to Thorsmork. See detailed info on reaching Thorsmork here. 

Most importantly though, our wardens are looking forward to greeting all visitors to lovely Husadalur.  The waffles are on the iron and the cream is being whipped, the beer is in the fridge and all that´s missing is YOU!
