Whales and puffins - closer than you think
Take part in an adventure at sea with an unforgettable 3 hour trip into the world of whales and sea birds. Conveniently located in Reykjavík's old harbour, the journey can bring you up close to whales and birds in their natural habitat. During the puffin season, May 15 to August 15, the trips include sightseeing around the puffin islands. The various types of whales commonly sighted include minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, harbour propises and the popular humpback whales.
To make the trip even more comfortable, passengers are provided with warm, floatable overalls and raincoats. For safety reasons, all children under 12 years of age are required to wear life jackets during the tour.
To ensure that the animals are not disturbed by the travellers’ presence, the boat sails at a constant speed towards the whales' habitat. As a result, a variety of species, from humpback whales to tiny porpoises, often surface within a few feet of the boat!
