Glacier Walk with a Local Guide

Starting point for this tour is in South East Iceland, transfer from Reykjavík is not included

In this glacier walk, with a local guide from Hali, you will experience the wonders of Vatnajökull glacier. A local guide takes you on an unforgettable journey on Breiðamerkurjökull, one of Vatnajökull biggest outlet glacier. The trip starts at Hali, from where your guide drives you to the glacier area.


After a 4x4 drive to the glacier area you will take a short boat trip (4 minutes) to where the glacier walk starts. From there you will walk on the glacier on crampons with ice axe in hand for 1 – 1,5 hours.


As you walk in the stunning surroundings of Vatnajökull National Park, with many unique photo opportunities, the guide takes you through the region’s history, from the settlement until our times. The tour is intended for those who want to spend half a day outside walking, talking and enjoying the unforgettable landscape in the surroundings of Jökulsárlón.


The tour can take between 3 – 4 hours (on the glacier 1 – 1,5 hour), including the drive back and forth from our pick up location at Hali. This tour is moderated and almost everyone can participate.


Minimum age is 8 years old (or shoe size 36 European size / US 4).


Rented equipment:
The tour operator offers rain jackets and pants for rent during the tour if needed. Rental price for jacket and pants is 1.000 ISK per person and is paid upon arrival directly to the tour operator.
