Dog Sledding – Husky Style
Please note: Due to the popularity of this tour, we recommend booking it well in advance. Please contact us for information on availability.
Here is your opportunity to get close to the amazing Greenland huskies. Imagine being pulled by a pack of strong beautiful huskies, the only sounds you hear are the dogs breathing and the sled softly touching the ground.
Dog sledding is a lot of fun and a real treat for anyone with adventure in their blood. Dog sledding does not create any air or noise pollution; it's just you, the frosty stillness and our majestic furry friends leading the pack across the snow.
Please note the two different variations of this tour: During the summer, the dog sledding takes place on Langjökull glacier, but in summer at the southwest corner of Iceland, only a 40 minute drive from the capital city of Reykjavík.
Important note for all winter Dogsledding tours: When there is no snow on the lowlands the dogs pull trolleys with wheels on farmlands instead of sleds on snow.
Winter Tours (August- April):
When we arrive at the dogsledding base camp where we get dressed up and ready to meet the dogs. We head out for up to one hour on the dogsled. Dogsledding tours provide a unique opportunity to mix adventure and sightseeing, discover the beauty of Iceland's wintery scene in the good company of adorable sled dogs. After spending some quality time with huskies we go to our next stop: a local swimming pool. Here you get to soak in hot tubs like a true local and unwind in steam baths, all naturally heated using the incredibly fresh and clean Icelandic water. The steam in the steam room comes straight up from a hot spring in the ground underneath the room, bringing heat directly from Earth‘s core! A trip to the geothermal pool after a fun day in the snow will leave you completely rejuvenated.
Summer Tours (May - July):
We begin the tour by heading north of Reykjavík, driving through the Hvalfjörður tunnel, heading to the West side of Langjökull glacier where our dogsledding basecamp is located. Here you get an opportunity to get close to the powerful Greenland huskies. We head out for approximately one hour of sledding. Our dogsledding tours provide a unique opportunity to mix adventure and sightseeing. It's a moment to discover the picturesque beauty of the Icelandic glaciers and the fun of dogsledding. This tour also includes two interesting sights: Deildartunguhver, Europe‘s highest-flowing hot spring and the magical Hraunfossar/Barnafoss waterfalls that well up through the lava fields into the Hvítá river.
