Sustainability
HI Iceland has ever since it was formed in 1939 focused on respecting the nature and making travelling accessible for everyone. We try to offer good quality services and facilities, and base our work on HI Iceland’s General Quality Standards.
All HI Iceland hostels are expected to pull their load when it comes to sustainability and work according to our environmental policy. Their local situations differ and and they are at different stages in putting the policy into practice in all their daily and annual activities. The Hostels which are particularly dedicated to sustainability are called Green Hostels and are specially labelled to make green choices easier for our guests.
We would like to ask all our guests to take part in environmental work both at home and abroad. To make this easier we offer a few tips on how to travel green, many of which also apply when returning home. The three R’s of sustainability, reduce, reuse, recycle, apply everywhere in the world. Don’t think your choice doesn’t matter; start with the little things, and work your way through it. Together we will make a difference.
