HI Iceland is thrilled to announce that Saeberg in Hrutafjordur in North West Iceland and Akranes in the South West parat has proudly been awarded the Green Hostel recognition for their work towards sustainability.The hostel has fulfilled the additional HI-Iceland environmental standards and have been audited by a professional consulting agency, named Alta. The criteria emphasizes on topics like consumption, reusing and recycling, pollution, energy and water, transportation, external surroundings and environmental education.
Through the Green Hostel logo, HI-Iceland recognizes and shows appreciation for the hostels ‘contribution towards preserving and improving Iceland’s fragile and unique environment, keeping in mind the coming generation´s benefit.
One of the main objectives of HI-Iceland is to offer guests facilities, services and recreation where responsible treatment of natural and social surroundings, and environment in general, are the guiding principles. The Green Hostel criteria was created in order to make it easier for travellers to go for a greener choice. By working on our sustainable quality we choose to contribute towards a style of travelling that increases people’s knowledge of their environment, concern for nature and respect for the cultural values of cities and towns in all parts of the world.
