HI Iceland has signed a declaration on responsible tourism on January 10 in the presence of the President of Iceland, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, who is also patron of the project.
The overall objects of the project go hand in hand with our philosophy and strategy since HI Iceland has been leading sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the tourist sector in Iceland.
Stefán Haraldsson, chairman of HI Iceland, signed the declaration on our behalf, but a total of 260 tourist companies in Iceland have taken part in the project.
For further information go to FESTA – the Center for Corporate Social Responsibility.
The board of HI Iceland agreed in November to establish a Sustainability Fund for 2017 to mark the international year of sustainable tourism.
Íslandsbanki, HI Iceland´s business bank, decided to support the cause by supporting the project with 500.000 ISK.
All hostels HI Iceland can now apply for a grant to start new sustainability projects in accordance to the new sustainability strategy.
The overall aim of the Fund is to enable stakeholders to make sustainable tourism a catalyst for positive change.
