Canada Day celebrated at Reykjavik City Hostel

Canada Day was celebrated in many parts of the world last Friday, the 1st of July, and also at the Reykjavik City Hostel. The occation is that HI Iceland and HI Canada signed a Memorandum of Understanding a year ago, to further develop the cooperation between the two associations, including the twinning of the Winnipeg and the Reykjavík Hostels.

One of the elements in the MOU is that an Iceland day would be celebrated at Winnipeg Hostel and a Canada day at the Reykjavík Hostels. Iceland day was celebrated on June 17th, the national day of Iceland. HI Canada announced the winner of a photo competition, the prize being a flight to Iceland and a car rental package with accommodation at teh Hostels in Iceland.

At the celebration of Canada Day short talks explained the MOU and the travel experience of a Canadian in Iceland, and a new poster to promote the Canadian hostels to travellers was presented. Guests then enjoyed light refreshments – with a red and white theme of course – and enjoyed chatting together in the friendly hostel environment at Reykjavík City Hostel.
