The Reykjavík Downtown Hostel has teamed up with a professional Reykjavík based/Seattle bred photographer, Craig Downing, to teach you how to get the most of your camera during your stay in Iceland.

Hostelling International has for a long time been focusing on sustainability and how the hostels can reduce the impact travels and travellers have on the environment. To get more information on what guests think, an extended customer survey has been sent to visitors who have booked accommodation online. One of the topics asked about is sustainability, as it is hugely important to us.

2011 was a good year here at HI Iceland with great successes, great stories and last but not least great guests.

This winter the Icelandic people are inviting their guests to come and be inspired by Iceland. The invitations range from a visit to the presidential residence for some panckages to learning how to milk a cow with some farmers in the North.

Reykjavík Downtown Hostel will be an official off-venue for this year‘s Iceland Airwaves - offering amazing live music during the festival. Last year‘s program included Ólafur Arnalds and Bombay Bicycle Club and this year will be equally exciting.

Traffic across Múlakvísl in Mýrdalssandur, South Iceland has been restored after a flash flood from Mýrdalsjökull swept away the bridge last Saturday.

Canada Day was celebrated in many parts of the world last Friday, the 1st of July, and also at the Reykjavik City Hostel. The occation is that HI Iceland and HI Canada signed a Memorandum of Understanding a year ago, to further develop the cooperation between the two associations, including the twinning of the Winnipeg and the Reykjavík Hostels.
