Hostel Details

At Berunes hostel you can enjoy peace and Icelandic farm life in a magnificent environment

Are you looking for a comfortable and unique space with stunning views?

Berunes is an old farm, set on the seafront opposite Djúpivogur village, surrounded with spectacular mountain range. You will find a homely hostel in which to relax and unwind, enjoy the scenery or even the mystical mist.

The Old House has been a hostel since 1973 and was built at the beginning of last century by the grandparents of the hosts. There is no clock nor tv, however you find free WIFI and a collection of books, selected and given by our guests throughout the years. Hostel has basic facilities, a small double and family rooms for up to 15 people, sharing lounge, kitchen and 2 bathrooms with shower.

In the new Family House there are five single/double/family rooms all sharing lounge, kitchen and 2 bathrooms with shower.

Additionally there are few self-catering cottages; each of them for 2 to 4 people.

Guests can treat themselves to the renowned pancake breakfast in the morning. Guests should note that the next grocery shops and restaurants are located 20 km away from the hostel. It is therefore advisable to arrive equipped with food supplies, especially if travelling without a car.

Guests find varied birdlife and marked hiking trails.

Berunes is a Green Hostel.

Berunes is ideally located for those who are travelling between Skaftafell National Park and the Mývatn area. We welcome you to become a part of our history.

Opening times: April 1st - October 1st

Langa-Búð, the oldest house in Djúpivogur, is made of logs and was originally built in 1790. Langa- Búð has been renovated and is now the cultural center of Djúpivogur. It houses a museum for Ríkharður Jónsson the sculptor as well as a gallery for local crafts and a coffee shop.
